Barium Fluoride is used in UV, visible & IR imaging system, scintillator & IR cut-off filter. It is suitable for a passive IR band (8-14 um) and a viewport for thermography.

It also possesses good mechanical and thermal properties, including a high melting point of around 1360 degrees Celsius, low thermal expansion, and high hardness. Additionally, barium fluoride crystal exhibits low refractive index and dispersion properties compared to other transparent materials, allowing for the production of lenses and prisms with minimal distortion or chromatic aberration.
